WE ARE NOT ALONE (not like...aliens, tho who knows)
The Holy Spirit is in us. That is profound. It should change how we live every single day.
I think we forget that the crescendo of the cross is the Holy Spirit. The Comforter. It says in John that it is better for us that Jesus died and went away so we could have the Holy Spirit.
I freaking love the Holy Spirit. He is so weird to have a relationship with because He is, no matter how close, always going to be a mystery. Even though He is a person, a part of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit of God that holds God's own heart for us, He is still a Force Unknown, an intangible thing. weird. Yet I am so convinced of His presence and power in my life.
It feels almost silly for me to be writing on the Holy Spirit since I am just beginning my relationship with Him, but I do know that no matter what stage you are at in your growth, He wants more. He wants to be depended on for everything, to ease our wonderings and stress. He wants everything, and He is for everything. His purpose is relationship, every part of life.
We were not meant to be alone, to be stuck in our heads or our hearts by ourselves. In the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve walked with God. I don't know how they could walk with God and not share every single corner of their heart, any thought that crossed their mind. I picture it like a toddler telling their parents about their day. It's wandering and not all the way constructed and there are so many rabbit trails, but it's their thought process out loud. I want that. I want that wandering conversation that goes on throughout the whole day, talking to the Holy Spirit, our connection to Life and Comfort and Peace. HE IS OUR COMFORTER. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN TO US TO SWALLOW UP LONELINESS. We are not alone.
All of that sounds super good, and who wouldn't want to be connected and depend on the Holy Spirit? Putting it into practice is a whole different story. It takes just that: practice. And it's frustrating because we are forgetful humans who are used to the physical being our only focus, and we (or at least, I) move on from praying for constant connection and awareness, to the business of our day and the next thing on our list. It takes a lot of practice, intentional, schedule reminders to check in with the Holy Spirit. I literally set an alarm on my phone to "say hi to the Holy Spirit", to bring Him back to the forefront of my awareness and include Him in whatever I'm doing. That might sound counterintuitive to the ethereal spirituality of it all, but a lot of the time, it takes calculated practice that doesn't feel deep or super spiritual.
I know it will take a while, a lot of practice, and a lot of failure and forgetting, but that's another reason why we need the Holy Spirit: grace. He is patient and gives us all the grace we need to get to Him.
I am not willing to go another day without the Holy Spirit deeply involved in even the most mundane part. He is my best friend, He fully knows me, and He fully loves me and He is for right now. Every single right now for the rest of my life.
