The Word of God

I had a dream a while back, and in the dream I carried my Bible with me everywhere, and there were people trying to take it from me, I don't remember all the details, but what I do remember so clearly is the feeling of urgency and conviction when I said "If I lose it, I will die." And in the dream that was literal, if I lost the Bible, I knew I would die right there, but it has become a connection that I believe to be true. I know that if I set down my Bible, I'm not going to keel over, but I also know that the Word is my hope, my way of knowing God, and seeing that He is who He says He is. Those words are life everlasting, and if I lose them, I will die.

The Bible is not some dusty religious text, it is a living, preserved, and 100% accurate letter from God to His children so that they would know Him, and they would know that what He says is TRUTH. It is literally the words of God, the words of Jesus, and we get to read them and live our lives according to them. It is one of the greatest gifts in all of history. I am so grateful for this book. It is my life, if I lose it I will die.

"His commandment is life everlasting." (John 12:50) We know His commandments through the Word of God, which means that He is giving us life everlasting through the Bible. We wouldn't know that Jesus's blood saved our lives, or that the veil was torn (which btw, is stunning. we have direct access to the holiest, to the most powerful. how the heck). I don't want to read any other book more than the Bible. It is not a book for seasons of life, it is for every single day. Obviously, if I miss a day, I am not a bad Christian or love God any less, but the Word is so good for us. It's so good for us. It is hope.

Maybe it's my strong Baptist roots, I believe the KJV to be the most accurate and preserved edition. When talking to people, I'll downplay it, because honestly, I'm just happy that someone is reading anything close to God's Word, but I want to read what God really said, not simplified and "easier" to read and understand. Yes the KJV may feel religious and outdated, but when I read it, I feel the reverence, the power and holiness of God's words.
But I mean, the KJV is still a translation, so ultimately, it seems wisest to read a wide variety and read with the Holy Spirit.

I don't believe that a God who went through the worst, would lean back and allow His perfect words to be twisted and changed, leaving an imitation, an echo, with no true version accessible for all. Maybe this is hyper-spiritual, but the Bible says that scripture "is" inspired by God, as in current. God didn't just create an original version, and then allow error to creep in. It has continued to be inspired by Him, to be maintained as the same words that were penned before, during, and after Jesus, the Old Testament that Jesus held and read from are the same words that we can read today.

We are to live and love and die by these Words, even the parts we don't like. Even the parts that feel challenging or don't line up with what we thought God was like. When that happens, what we tend to do is change the meaning of the verse in our head until it fits with our idea of God, but God is not an idea, He is not malleable. His Word is fixed and true, 100%. I cannot lower God to my understanding of Him. If I have done that, I have created my own god.
